Charles Walker, better known by his stage name, DJ Cdisiac, has a story as layered and complex as the beats he spins. At just 21 years old, this Des Moines, Iowa native has become a rising force in the Midwest music scene, known for his ability to blend genres, cultures, and emotions into a seamless experience that captivates every crowd he performs for.
Dual Worlds, Dual Inspirations
Cdisiac’s love for music was forged in the contrasts of his upbringing, splitting time between his mother’s and father’s households. “At my mom’s house, it was all R&B and neo-soul—Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, and D’Angelo,” he recalls. “At my dad’s, it was old-school hip-hop—Dre, Nas, and Biggie. Two different worlds, but both filled with rhythm, soul, and storytelling.”
By the age of 13, his passion for music turned into an obsession with DJing. “I remember being in the basement with this hand-me-down equipment, trying to teach myself how to mix. It wasn’t pretty at first, but I loved every second of it.”
From Basement Dreams to Spotlight Reality
Cdisiac’s journey from bedroom DJ to center-stage performer has been nothing short of meteoric. His breakthrough came when he began performing at local events, building a reputation for his eclectic sets that could make any crowd move.
Now, at 21, his resume includes spinning for events hosted by big names like Bernie Sanders and Warren Buffett, and opening for the legendary Nelly. But for Cdisiac, one of the most memorable nights was his 21st birthday celebration. “Over 660 people showed up. The energy was insane. It was like all the hard work was finally paying off.”
Despite these successes, Cdisiac remains grounded. “Every set matters, whether it’s a packed venue or a small party. It’s about creating moments people won’t forget.”
Navigating the Local Scene
Des Moines is home, but it’s also a challenge. “The city has a lot of potential, but the music scene here can be limiting,” he explains. “There’s not enough appreciation for genres like house and jungle, or an understanding of their roots in Black culture. Music isn’t just sound; it’s history, identity, and resistance.”
While he’s grateful for the support he’s received, Cdisiac knows his ambitions require a bigger platform. “I love Des Moines, but to grow, I need to expand beyond it. Staying here forever would limit what I can accomplish.”
Staying Consistent, Staying Real
Cdisiac’s philosophy is simple: consistency is everything. “No matter what, you have to show up,” he says. “Whether the crowd is huge or small, whether you feel inspired or not—keep putting in the work. That’s how you grow.”
His advice for aspiring artists goes deeper than just technical skills. “Learn the craft, but also learn your audience. Don’t just play what people know—educate them. Introduce them to something new and show them the connections between genres and cultures.”
The Road Ahead
Looking to the future, Cdisiac dreams of taking his music to cities with more vibrant, diverse music scenes. “I want to play on bigger stages, in places where people truly live and breathe music.”
But even as he sets his sights on new horizons, he’s committed to honoring his roots. “Des Moines made me who I am. I’ll always carry that with me, no matter where I go.”
For now, DJ Cdisiac is focused on perfecting his craft, growing his brand, and creating unforgettable experiences for his audiences. Whether he’s opening for a global star or hosting an intimate party, one thing is clear: DJ Cdisiac isn’t just spinning tracks—he’s creating the soundtrack to memories. And his rhythm is destined to resonate far beyond the Midwest.
