Tucked away in an unassuming corner, Paris Banh Mi Cafe & Boba is the kind of place that can be easy to overlook if you aren't specifically looking for it. The name itself tells you pretty much what you're getting: Vietnamese comfort food alongside the increasingly unavoidable world of bubble tea. It's an interesting combination, and honestly, one I wasn't entirely sure how I would feel about. Pho and boba aren't exactly the first pairing that comes to mind when I think about lunch, but I'm also not going to complain about having an excuse to order both.

During my visit, I decided to try the Pho Special with a Thai Tea Boba, which felt like a reasonable introduction to the menu. I wanted something familiar enough to judge the restaurant by, but I also wanted to see whether the drinks were actually worth the attention they seem to get. The answer, as it turns out, was a little complicated.

The Pho

The Pho Special arrived steaming, which is always a good start. The smell hit before I even took the first bite, and the broth had that familiar savory aroma that makes pho so comforting. The broth itself was well-seasoned and easy to enjoy, with a slight sweetness underneath the savory flavor. Nothing about it was unpleasant or overwhelming, and it was the kind of broth that you could happily keep eating without getting tired of it.

The noodles were soft without completely falling apart, which is important because there is a surprisingly narrow line between properly cooked pho noodles and noodles that have decided they no longer want to participate. These held their structure well enough, and the thinly sliced beef was tender and cooked nicely. The meat absorbed the broth as I ate, which made each bite a little better than the last.

The usual plate of herbs, bean sprouts, and lime came alongside the bowl, which I appreciated because I am very much a "let me customize this myself" person when it comes to pho. Adding the herbs and lime changed the flavor enough to keep things interesting, and the fresh ingredients gave the otherwise warm and savory bowl a little contrast.

My biggest issue with the pho wasn't that anything was particularly wrong with it. It was that I kept waiting for something more.

The broth was good. The noodles were good. The beef was good. The toppings were fresh. Everything was doing exactly what it was supposed to do, but the broth didn't have the depth that separates a good bowl of pho from one that you find yourself thinking about days later. It played things relatively safe. There wasn't much of that deep, layered flavor that makes you want to drink the broth long after you've finished the noodles.

That isn't necessarily a bad thing. If you're someone who prefers a milder, approachable pho, you might actually appreciate it. For me, though, it left the dish feeling like it was very close to being something special without quite getting there.

Then Came the Boba

The Thai Tea Boba, on the other hand, had me immediately reconsidering how much room I had left in my stomach.

The drink was probably my favorite part of the meal. The Thai tea had a creamy texture and a sweetness that didn't completely overpower the tea itself, which is one of my biggest complaints with overly sweet drinks. I want my Thai tea to taste like tea, not like someone poured sugar into a cup and briefly introduced it to a tea bag.

This one actually had that distinctive earthy Thai tea flavor underneath the sweetness, and the balance worked surprisingly well.

Then there was the boba.

The pearls were fresh, chewy, and generous enough that I wasn't spending half the drink wondering where they had gone. This sounds like a small detail, but anyone who has ordered bubble tea knows that boba distribution can be a serious issue. There is nothing worse than getting a drink that promises boba and receiving approximately six pearls at the bottom like they were rationing them.

That was not a problem here.

The drink was creamy, refreshing, and indulgent without becoming exhausting to drink. It also worked surprisingly well alongside the pho. The savory broth followed by the sweetness of the Thai tea created enough contrast that neither completely overwhelmed the other.

I also tried the Lemonade Slushie with Jelly Boba, which brought a completely different energy to the table. Where the Thai tea was creamy and earthy, the lemonade slushie was bright, cold, and much more refreshing. The jelly boba added another texture to the drink and made it feel more like a dessert than something I'd casually order with lunch.

Between the two drinks, I preferred the Thai tea, but the lemonade slushie would probably be my choice on a hot day when I wanted something lighter and more refreshing.

The Cafe

The cafe itself fits somewhere between cozy and contemporary. It isn't trying to be an overly formal dining experience, which I think works in its favor. The atmosphere is clean and inviting, and it feels like somewhere you could stop for a quick meal without feeling like you need to immediately leave once you've finished eating.

That makes sense for the type of restaurant it is. Paris Banh Mi Cafe & Boba isn't necessarily selling itself as a slow, formal dining experience. It's somewhere you can grab a bowl of pho, order a drink, sit down for a while, and go about your day.

The service during my visit was prompt and courteous. I didn't have any major complaints, although I also wouldn't describe the interaction as particularly memorable. Everyone was polite and things moved efficiently, but there wasn't quite the warmth or personality that can turn a good restaurant experience into one you remember.

And sometimes that matters more than people realize.

Food is obviously the most important part of a restaurant, but the atmosphere and service are what surround the food. You can have an excellent meal somewhere and still leave feeling indifferent if the experience around it is forgettable. In this case, the food did most of the heavy lifting.

So, Would I Go Back?

Yes.

Would I go back specifically for the pho? Probably, but it wouldn't be the first thing I'd recommend.

The pho was satisfying, well-prepared, and perfectly enjoyable, but I wanted more complexity from the broth. It felt like a reliable bowl rather than an unforgettable one. If you're looking for something approachable and comforting, though, that may actually be exactly what you want.

The drinks are where Paris Banh Mi Cafe & Boba really won me over. The Thai Tea Boba was easily the standout of my meal, and the Lemonade Slushie with Jelly Boba gave me another reason to pay attention to the drink menu. I went in expecting the pho to be the star of the show and ended up thinking about the boba afterward.

That isn't necessarily a bad thing.

There is something appealing about a restaurant that doesn't force you to choose between a meal and a fun drink. You can come in craving pho and leave with a giant cup of Thai tea, or you can stop by specifically because you want a bubble tea and decide that you might as well get some food while you're there.

For me, Paris Banh Mi Cafe & Boba lands somewhere in the category of worth trying, with a few things worth coming back for. The pho has a solid foundation but could use more depth, while the drinks are where the restaurant really starts to stand out. The combination makes it an easy place to recommend to someone who wants something casual, filling, and a little different from the usual quick-service options.

Would I call it the best pho I've ever had? Absolutely not.

Would I happily order another Thai Tea Boba from there? Without hesitation.

And honestly, sometimes that's enough reason to go back.
